Attention to Detail Matters
After 30 years in freight forwarding, I've learned that some of the biggest problems don't start with major events.
They start with small details.
One lesson that reinforced this recently involved shipment dimensions and volume.
Imagine a shipment that should be entered as 10 CBM.
Instead, it gets entered as 100 CBM.
It's only one extra zero.
But that one extra zero can have a ripple effect:
- Incorrect freight charges
- Incorrect invoices
- Customer questions
- Internal emails
- Re-billing requests
- Time spent researching the issue
- Time spent correcting the issue
What started as a simple data entry mistake suddenly becomes a productivity drain affecting multiple people.
In logistics, those small details matter.
The time required to fix an error often costs far more than the few extra seconds it would have taken to verify the information before it was entered.
Over the years, I've found that the most successful logistics professionals share one common trait:
They pay attention to detail.
They verify weights.
They verify dimensions.
They review shipment information before it moves to the next step.
Because they understand that accuracy isn't just about getting the numbers right.
It's about preventing problems before they start.
In freight forwarding, transportation, warehousing, and supply chain management, attention to detail saves:
✅ Time
✅ Money
✅ Customer frustration
✅ Internal resources
After 30 years in freight forwarding, that's a lesson that continues to prove itself every day.
Attention to detail matters.
