Summer Fridays and the Birth of FR8Life

Summer Fridays hit different in the freight world.

The warehouse had cleared out for the weekend. I was new to the game and staring at a container that had to make a 11 p.m. cutoff at the railroad, otherwise, we'd miss the vessel and delay a whole shipment by a week.

Just when I was thinking, "What am I going to do?" the dispatcher, a total stranger at the time, saw the look on my face. He didn't have to, but he said, "Let's load it together."

I had zero experience, but we got it done. The sweat, the heat, the feeling of getting that last box in... it was one of the most gratifying feelings I've ever had. I was hooked.

Later that night, flying down the highway with the windows down, I caught up to the truck carrying our container. I threw my arm out the window and gave him the signal to honk the air horn. As that horn blared through the summer night, I knew. That's where the #FR8Life journey truly began.
